In 1995, PUR landed a real mega-success with their album “Abenteuerland”. On the tour of the same name, the Swabians around singer Hartmut Engler filled entire stadiums, and this much can already be revealed: There weren’t quite that many listeners on Saturday evening in the Flintstone of the Paläon in Schöningen, but the Braunschweig PUR cover band Abenteuerland came pretty close to the original in terms of atmosphere with their “living room concert”, according to the ranks of die-hard PUR fans.
Anja Schliephake, for example, had only seen PUR live on stage on a cruise ship in September and had a chat with Engler outside a snack bar in Copenhagen. “Of course Carsten Siebert’s voice is different,” admitted the Schöningen resident, but the cover band’s performance was great and the atmosphere in the packed Flintstone was terrific, she said.
Marie-Luise Fiedler revealed with a wink that the handball players from the Schöningen/Schöppenstedt handball team, who had gone to the concert to find a team, had a similar view. She herself prefers techno, “but at some point you end up humming along,” she laughed. This is due to the German-language lyrics and the catchy melodies, speculated teammate Sonja Höfler, who proved to be extremely accurate when it came to lyrics. “I think my handball girls and I have been to every PUR concert that has taken place in the area,” she confessed, adding: “The cover band Abenteuerland is really great.”
Anja and Uwe Urban and Mona Völker from Süpplingen, who had already seen “Abenteuerland” on stage in Wolfenbüttel, thought so too. “When I heard that they were giving a concert at Paläon, I really wanted to be there. And what can I say: I’m absolutely thrilled,” beamed Anja Urban. Sure, as a cover band for a German-language cult band like PUR, it might seem a little easier at first glance. The audience knows the lyrics inside out and hit giants such as “Lena”, “Abenteuerland” and “Funkelperlenaugen” really do make the audience’s eyes twinkle like stars. On the other hand, the cover must always be measured against the original. And with a band like PUR, the bar should be set pretty high. It’s good that Abenteuerland has retained its authenticity and made a name for itself as a cover band over the years.”
